Employer Drug Testing Guides
Reference material for the person who actually has to run the program. Each guide deals with a decision you have to make or a situation you will eventually face, with sources you can check and a review date on the page.
Where to Start
If you are building a program from nothing, start with the policy, because everything downstream refers back to it. If you already test and something has gone wrong, start with the guide covering that situation. If you are reviewing what you already have, the provider guide is the one that tends to surface the most.
If you would rather not run the program yourself, our employee drug testing services cover the same ground as a managed arrangement.
None of these require you to contact us to be useful. That is deliberate. If you decide you would rather hand the work off afterward, a specialist can pick it up from wherever you have got to.

Common questions
Who are these written for?
The person inside a company who is actually responsible for drug testing: an HR manager, a safety director, an operations leader. They assume you are running a program rather than studying the subject, so they focus on decisions you have to make and mistakes that are expensive.
Is this legal advice?
No. These are explanations of how testing programs work and what rules generally require, with primary sources linked so you can check them. Applying any of it to your company is a conversation with your own employment counsel, and where a statute is cited, the statute controls over our summary.
How often is this updated?
Each guide carries the date it was last reviewed. Marijuana law changes often enough that anything undated is worth distrusting, which is why we date everything and cite where it came from.

This page is general information about employer drug testing, not legal advice. Drug testing rules differ by state and by industry. Check with your own counsel before setting or changing a testing policy.
